I think this is my favorite shot of the bunch. I like the shallow DOF. Just wish the mantis would've stopped and looked at me again. But it was bookin' for a small evergreen nearby.

  • Knock, knock, knock. Is anybody home?<br /> <br /> A Preying Mantis on our sliding-glass-door screen. This guy was moving so I didn't have time to focus real well. I'm also having problems with tendonitis so all these photos aren't my best. But when my wife called me over to see this guy (or gal?), I just had to hobble around and take a few shots.
  • It's creepy how these things "look" at you and often track your movements.
  • Thought the reflection of it might be a neat crop of the original. Didn't turn out as good as I hoped. Oh well.

  • Eventually the mantis flew into the yard. So I hobbled out there and got some more shots.

  • This solitary dandelion caught my eye as I started to hobble back inside.
  • Had to lay flat on the ground for this shot with my chin on the lawn. Thought it'd be a neat perspective piece. I think it looks like a palm tree and might play with adding some building, etc in the background to play with forced perspective a little. :)
