  • Abandoned<br />
<br />
Saw this abandoned house on the way down to our vacation destination. I think it was on SR 37 somewhere.
  • Joe Palooka Statue<br />
<br />
This limestone statue of the 1940's cartoon hero was only a few miles from where we stayed Saturday night of our vacation. Located on Main Street in Oolitic, between the Town Hall and the Post Office.

  • Abandoned Too<br />
<br />
Saw this abandoned house down near Salem, IN on our way to Beck's Mill. Temp was high along with the humidity (had just stopped raining) so when I got out of the van to take a couple shots everything including my optics fogged up. I was pretty upset about it at the time. However, I liked the softness and mood of this shot so decided to go ahead and post it.
  • Tin Roof, Rusted<br />
<br />
On our way back from Beck's Mill purposely took an adventurous route through the countryside and happened upon this old barn with a rusted tin roof.
  • Old Red Barn<br />
<br />
Saw this old red barn on I think SR 25 near Salem on our way back from Beck's Mill.
  • Salem Courthouse<br />
<br />
"For much of its existence, the center piece for Salem’s town square has been the county courthouse. The first, built on pillars, gaining it the nickname “Stilted Castle of Justice,” opened in 1816, but by 1824 was deemed unsubstantial and was ordered replaced. The present day courthouse -- the third at that location -- opened in 1888, a spectacular structure that today stands as one of the crown jewels among Indiana’s 92 courthouses."<br />

  • Morgan's Raid<br />
Courthouse at Salem, IN<br />
<br />
"In June 1863, the Confederate cavalry under John Hunt Morgan had departed Tennessee on what would later became known as Morgan's Raid. Traveling through Tennessee and into Kentucky, Morgan eventually crossed into Indiana; he reached Salem on July 10, 1863, coming north from Corydon. Upon entering Salem at approximately 9 a.m., Morgan immediately took possession of the town and placed guards over the stores and streets. The cavalrymen burned the large, brick railroad depot, along with all the train cars on the track and the railroad bridges on each side of the town. Morgan demanded taxes from the two flour mills that belonged to DePauw and Knight, and from the Allen Wollen Mill. Morgan's men looted stores and took about $500 from the area before departing about 3 p.m."<br />
